we’re baaaaack!

things have been moving nicely with all things she who hears :)

we have a new member [jimlyn avecilla on guitar], which brings our band to a solid 5-piece. we’re pretty stoked about it, and cannot wait to record the new album!

we disappeared from tumblr for a while, but i’m hoping we’ll be blogging more frequently - for anyone who is weird and wants to read about our adventures. speaking of which, we will be hitting the road on friday and driving 6 hours north to the beautiful city of san rafael / san francisco, to perform for a relay for life event with our buddies spartacus (http://www.facebook.com/spartacusmusic). we will be sure to document the trip, as always, and make a nice little video out of it. should be a good one!

then, the following weekend we have a local show in oxnard for a cancer relief benefit. we love playing shows like these for great causes, because if music can help raise money to help others, then we’re all for it. we’re not about making money for ourselves, and we’re not about making money at all. we’re in it for the fun, for the love, and for the craft.

one love,

she who hears.

studios, notebooks, and labels.

so, while we’ve been absent from tumblr for a while now, we’ve been really busy getting ready for the next step. we took most of september off from practice because all of us were really busy in our individual lives, but we’re back on track and working harder than ever! back to weekly practices, back to writing new music and lyrics, and back to our motivation.

we’re determined to make things work, and we can’t wait to share everything with you all :) at the moment, we’re revamping some of our old favorites and working on perfecting the music we have now. we should be hitting the studio (a real one this time, haha) to record in late december/early january and should have a finished product to distribute by april/may, just in time for a summer tour! we’ll be shopping it out to labels too, should be an interesting avenue.

more updates to come - not all band related, but i figured i’d just throw this out there since our last blog was back in like… august?!

Good Day

“Good Day” - (C) She Who Hears. ‘Good Day’ was written by Morgan Johnson ( vocals ) and composed musically by Jacky Bui (guitarist), Alyssa Meintasis (bassist), and Korrine Boswell (drummer).

We wanted to write an easy-going positive song and ‘Good Day’ was our response to that idea. Sometimes you just have to throw your plans out the window and do what your heart wants you to do :) This one has a little bit of a reggae flavor going on… the result of late night chord progressions after a Rebelution concert (Jacky works at an entertainment public relations firm and Rebelution is one of their music clients so she and Morgan went to the concert to check out what goes on back stage with the band and watch from a different angle).

This song was recorded at Emuse Music and was produced by Kris Simeon - pardon the volume adjustments and any imperfections. Did I mention we recorded all of these songs in a week to rush out a quick demo before we left for San Diego? Haha! We’ll be back to re-record soon.

Common Thief

Common Thief” (C) She Who Hears - 2011: Common Thief was written by Morgan Johnson (vocals) and musically composed by Morgan Johnson (vocals), Jacky Bui (guitarist), Alyssa Meintasis (bassist), and Korrine Boswell (drums).

“Common Thief” is one of our newest ballads and is one of Morgan’s most personal compostions to date.

This recording was recorded at Emuse Studios in Oxnard, CA and was produced by Kris Simeon. Audio sounds best when heard through monitors [due to balance levels in the exporting of the track, our apologies!]

this is what happened when we decided to travel for a week with our roadie to pass out free demos in san diego and canoga park.

santa barbara, lompoc, san jose, san francisco, and berkely - we’re coming for you this december! :)

practicing, writing, learning, growing.

so it’s been a week that we’ve been home since we got back from the mini tour and i’m still itching to play. luckily we have a show coming up next saturday on the 27th to feed our musical cravings :)

we’ll be playing alongside spartacus (http://www.facebook.com/spartacusmusic) for their 10th anniversary show - how cool is that? we love them, they’ve been like our brothers and we couldn’t be more appreciative for all of the critique and words of wisdoms they’ve given us since our beginnings. they started playing together at really young ages and have been playing ever since - through the ups and downs of their careers they have yet to give up and i really admire that in them. i wish the best of luck for their future and i hope they go far!

in the meantime, we continue writing new material and improving as a unit. practicing and getting to know our instruments a lot better. we go to live shows and observe how the performers handle themselves, we listen to a variety of genres and pull inspiration.

we do it all for the love of music and the hope of finding a fan in you :)

we want to utilize tumblr and get to know other people around the world, not just to get fans. we want to explore your posts and see what is going on and write music that you can relate to… without sounding like a bunch of creepy girls who are reading your life story as it unfolds on our dashboard, HAHA! i swear, we’re not crazy.

Hello! We are She Who Hears :)

You may be wondering who we are in the chance that you’ve found a new follower on your dashboard - I’m here to tell you that we are She Who Hears! A band you probably have not heard of… yet. We hope to invade your ears with our music and maybe you’ll like what you hear :)

We’re an all girl band from Ventura County, CA and we’re here to show the guys that girls can rock too [the scene around here is mostly male dominated]. We play everything from reggae to rock, ballads to upbeat… we try not to stay constricted under one genre since we all have so many different tastes in music.

Feel free to follow us and keep updated with what we’ve got up our sleeves! Check back for music, show dates, and random photos and videos.

You don’t know us, and we don’t know you, but we love you already and we’re crossing our fingers that you’ll open up your hearts and ears for us!
